I had a pretty good workflow for creating component footprints with PCB Libraries Footprint Expert, which was previously free for CircuitStudio. I’ve used CircuitStudio for more than 4 years and seen basically zero new features. If it doesn’t do what you want now, don’t bank on there being an update to do it any time soon. Updates are slooooooooow, bordering on non-existent. If you’re doing circuits with DDR2 (or more recent) RAM, high-speed busses, fast USB2/3, etc… then maybe consider other options. High-speed digital design features aren’t as good as full Altium Designer. However, here’s the bad things, if you can’t put up with these then maybe reconsider: It has most of the features of Altium Designer that make that piece of software the go-to for professional board design. Some of the advanced features are significantly more polished than KiCad, and it’s generally much faster to work with than KiCad (for me, at least). I’ve used CircuitStudio to design and iterate on a series of products for a small-scale hardware startup (Clockwork Dog, we make interactive show control hardware).
